In 2006 I had just come back from spending 6 months in India studying yoga and working in the slums of Mumbai, I had no job and no idea what was next for me. When I was offered a short term teaching gig for a teacher who leaving for a few months I happily accepted and decided to pursue a legit western 200-hr certification to make sure I had the “credentials” to teach. At the time there were only a few teacher training courses in the SF Bay Area and I was searching for something that reminded me of India, a tough act to follow but I eventually gravitated towards a studio in the Marina called GreenPath Yoga, I couldn’t tell you why I chose it other than it felt right.
It was here that I first met the Green Sufi, and discovered that I was exactly where I needed to be. He was standing outside of the studio basking in the sun. I stood next time and asked what he was doing and he explained to me how the sun’s energy nourishes our mind, body, and spirit. He did it everyday for at least 20 minutes. I stood there with him in silence and allowed the sun to seep into my soul lighting a fire that still burns today.
When nothing else makes sense I have a date with the sunshine and smile remembering the Green Sufi, remembering my journey so far, and remembering that I’m where I need to be.
Happy Monday!
