10 things I learned from David Moreno

I had the opportunity to spend time and learn from expert international yoga teacher and cyclist David Moreno. David was teaching a workshop titled “Yoga for Cyclists”, my two loves taught together, sign me up!  You might be wondering how the two even go together; yoga belongs on the mat and cycling on the Tour de France. The beauty of Yoga is that it is EVERYWHERE and the practice truly comes alive when you take it off the mat and into the world.  I can attest to that as I often credit my yoga practice to getting me through 7Continue Reading >>

Monday Meditation: Keep on moving

This weekend brought my attention back to the idea of moving forward, one step at a time regardless of how slow the movement seems. If you continue to make decisions and move you will get where you want to go, it’s when you stop that the end seems forever far. In December I signed up for a bicycle event called the “Death Ride’, a Tour of the Tahoe Alps covering 129 miles and 15,000 feet of climbing. Why? Well, back then it sounded like a good challenge and a great idea… doesn’t everyone want to climb up 3500 feet toContinue Reading >>

Ride On!

6 months of training, endless hours in silence, and umpteenth lessons later… it’s here… the AIDS ride… 7 days, 545 miles, in an effort to raise awareness for HIV/AIDS. A disease that is now being categorized as “chronic” with the rate of new infections and related deaths stabilizing and slowly declining, still appx 34 million people worldwide are living with HIV/AIDS, not to mention those that are not accounted for. Awareness and education is as important now as it was in the 90‘s. Tomorrow I’ll be riding out of the cow palace with thousands of others riders and roadies toContinue Reading >>

Strike a pose… Cyclists!

As my fellow cyclists and I prepare to ride from SF to LA, yoga breaks (along with food, water, and bio breaks) are a must.   Why Yoga?   Incorporating basic yoga poses and principles like forward bends, twists, glute/hammy stretches, breath, and mindfulness can give you and your body a boost to go that extra mile. Yoga integrates breath and body to take “stretching” to a deeper level. Flexibility comes when strength meets ease and the catalyst for this is breath. Breath provides mini contraction/relaxation responses throughout the entire body allowing the muscles to lengthen, slowly and efficiently. RestorationContinue Reading >>

Tour de Cure- Stop Diabetes

For those that know me, or follow me, know that I heart wine – red wine- yummy, complex, big, beautiful wine (no I’m not drinking while I write this). Point being, living in Northern California just a 50 miles from Wine Country is a wine drinkers dream, lucky for me I get to live this dream. I can hop in my car and within an hour be at one of my favorite wineries enjoying a tasting. This Sunday I traded in my sundress for spandex and headed to wine country while the moon was still out to experience Napa Valley fromContinue Reading >>
