“A Healthier 2010” – Lecture Synopsis

21 January 2010, Comments: 2

Last night Ritu and I attended the “A Healthier 2010” wellness festival in Palo Alto. It started with an introduction of various wellness groups in the Bay Area, and followed with a lecture by Prof Adiel Tel-Oren (Dr. T). Dr. T is a holistic scientist, and discussed the health challenges people face, and ways to “free” yourself from medicines, chronic disease, and aging. I was hoping for more specifics; however he did make a few points that I found interesting: Genetic Lineage and Epi-Genetics – He explained that while there are 25,000 genes in the human genome, there are thousands,Continue Reading >>

Experiment!

19 January 2010, Comments: 1

With the Paleo challenge well under way, some of you might be wondering “What happened to Zoleo?” Zoleo hasn’t gone anywhere! In fact, as part of living a healthy lifestyle, it’s important to experiment with new ideas and paradigms, to see if they work for you (or not). This Paleo challenge is for us to experiment what happens when we don’t balance or measure at all, and eat strictly paleo foods. After 30 days, we’ll evaluate how we look, feel and perform. Danger, danger! Step away from the scale

13 January 2010, Comments: 3

You have decided to take on a new lifestyle incorporating physical exercise and a healthy diet, partly because you enjoy this new lifestyle and partly because you want to see results. Over the years we have been conditioned to think that if our diet and exercise plan is working then the number on the scale should decrease. We become obsessed with the scale and its reading and unknowingly make it our diet and exercise counselor. One pound down, hooray we are on the right path, one pound up, boo this plan isn’t working time to switch to a new plan.Continue Reading >>

Green Leafy Veggies – Nutritional Powerhouses

12 January 2010, Comments: 6

It was common for our paleo ancestors to eat up to six pounds of leaves per day. You can imagine them just walking along picking and eating leaves as they went. Can you imagine eating that much? Unfortunatley, most of us don’t eat the minimum USDA recommendation of 3 cups per day, yet leafy greens a jam packed with vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients. Per about.com: “Dark green leafy vegetables are, calorie for calorie, perhaps the most concentrated source of nutrition of any food. They are a rich source of minerals (including iron, calcium, potassium, and magnesium) and vitamins, including vitaminsContinue Reading >>
