Life lessons learned from Mt. Kilimanjaro

Happy New Year! I hope the start of this year is treating you well. I feel this is going to be an amazing, life changing, year. It’s already gotten off to an epic start… Last month I told you I was heading out for an African Adventure and to do something that scares me. For me, that something was climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, a 19,340 free standing mountain in Tanzania! Yes, I know it sounds crazy but once I was at the base of the mountain I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else. And guess what…. This was my initial reaction to the adventureContinue Reading >>

Surviving The Tough Mudder

23 September 2012, Comments: 1

I have been racking my brain for the last couple of hours and lingering in major writers block trying to figure out the words to describe my experience from yesterday’s Tough Mudder event, and I’m at a loss. Not because there are no words to describe the event but because there are a million words and thoughts that come to mind: madness, crazy, awesome, emotional, holy crap, wow, smile, accomplishment, amazing, painful, scary, tough. This weekend brought my attention back to the idea of moving forward, one step at a time regardless of how slow the movement seems. In December I signed up for a bicycle event called the “Death Ride’, a Tour of the Tahoe Alps covering 129 miles and 15,000 feet of climbing. Why? Well, back then it sounded like a good challenge and a great idea… doesn’t everyone want to climb up 3500 feet toContinue Reading >>

Tour de Cure- Stop Diabetes

For those that know me, or follow me, know that I heart wine – red wine- yummy, complex, big, beautiful wine (no I’m not drinking while I write this). Point being, living in Northern California just a 50 miles from Wine Country is a wine drinkers dream, lucky for me I get to live this dream. I can hop in my car and within an hour be at one of my favorite wineries enjoying a tasting. This Sunday I traded in my sundress for spandex and headed to wine country while the moon was still out to experience Napa Valley fromContinue Reading >>

Eat before you’re hungry…. drink before you’re thirsty!

4 June 2011, Comments: 0

Short and sweet post before I head out for my ride down to LA. One of the biggest lessons I have learned over my last 5 months of training is this: eat before you are hungry, drink before you are thirsty. DUH! Yes, it seems like a no brainer but when life gets busy, training gets longer, and you get lazy, this simple rule gets pushed to the back burner. I alway stress to my clients and in my seminars to not let more than 5 hours pass between meals and snacks. We have all skipped meals here and thereContinue Reading >>
