1 March 2010, Comments: 1

Marjoram. Bay leaves. Mace. Coriander. You probably have these located somewhere in your kitchen cabinets, yet you have no idea what these are for. You may have possibly glanced over the label, and can recognize it by its smell, but do you actually know how to use it? For all those Julia Child’s and Martin Yan Can Cook’s out there, I’m sure you already know that these are Spices and know how to use them, but for the novice chef, you have to take a wild guess and hope that it makes your dish taste better. Sounds familiar, right? Take aContinue Reading >>

Over the last few years "Organic" has evolved to be the new buzz word, but what does it really mean and how can you tell if you are really eating organic? The USDA National Organic Program (NOP) provides the following (lengthy) description for organic: Organic food is produced by farmers who emphasize the use of renewable resources and the conservation of soil and water to enhance environmental quality for future generations. As long as I could remember, white rice has always been a staple that accompanied all main courses… that was until Crossfit came around.  In order to perform better, I knew I had to eat better.  Adios white rice, hello brown rice.  Right?  Wrong.  Although rice is gluten free, it’s not the carbohydrate that Paleo folk choose to consume.  Until now. I bring you the perfect substitute for any dish that can be eaten rice.  Its versatility allows you to eat it with just about everything. Try it with your favorite Paleo Curry Dish or even with a piece ofContinue Reading >>

Feeding your feelings

20 February 2010, Comments: 7

I spent the past few days in all day meetings and am now reaping the benefits of poor eating, caffeine overdose, dehydration, lack of sleep and no exercise… I look like crap and am coughing up my lungs… lovely. I found myself eating for no reason other than that food was available and accessible. I was loading up on coffee, eating the chocolate kisses and Oreo cookies, and even found myself opening a can of Dr. Pepper that's where I drew the line, what the heck am I doing?! I realized that even though I knew better, I was fallingContinue Reading >>
